Bioffiti: sprouted street art

Bioffiti on brickwall

Bioffiti is a street art project using alfalfa sprouts, in a growing medium, to paint on the street walls as a means of expression. It is part of the Eyebeam Graffiti Research Lab
The methodology for the process is simple.
The sprouts are soaked in water for a day. Then added to wheat paste, in small batches.

Test sprouts: they are alive!

A large paint brush is used to apply the wheatpaste without he sprouts to a surface.
The sprouts will most likely need to be applied with several coats to make them sticky.
They need to be sprayed with a water mister for the following day.
The sprouts usually take between 1-3 days to sprout fully.

The top most image is a composite of what an ideal sprouted bioffiti piece would look like.
Due to the rain over the last few days, the test wall failed.
