The only explanation I've ever heard is that the owner has very deep pockets. I am not a Pro Sculptor as I am really just an indy game artist and make mostly Low poly assets. Also they layers tended to work better for texturing in Mudbox from what I remember, but as a whole, I still think ZBrush is superior.
